Filming Equipment I use for online yoga classes
Hi! This blogpost is for other yoga teachers who would like to start teaching online. Please note that you don’t need any of the products I have tagged here. All you need really, is a laptop and some earbuds that have a decent microphone. However, If you’d like to make yourself slightly more comfortable, This is what I use when teaching.
Camera
My laptop doesn’t have the best built in camera. So I have chosen to purchase an external webcam to up my screen quality. What you want to be looking for in a webcam, especially when recording yoga classes is a high frame rate. Which will show itself in ‘sfp’s’ 60 sfp should be suffient for smooth motion. And 1080P / HD would be ideal for clear imaging. I opt for a webcam because most of my online teaching is actually live. However, if you will be making pre recorded classes, an actual camera might be a better option for you. However, if you are starting out on a budget, most modern phones also work just fine. I use a samsung S21 in the pro video mode whenever recording pre recorded classes.
Audio
Audio, in my opinion, is more important than the screen quality. You want your students to clearly understand your cues. If you have a set of headphones that have got a decent microphone, this could work out. However, if you truly want to scale up the Rode Wireless go 2 is the way to go. I got the single pack as I don’t have a need for two microphones and it saved me some cash. I use this for recording meditations and voiceovers too. I think this is an investment, but one that is well worth it especially since high quality audio makes you that much more pleasant to listen to
Tripod
This tripod is my holy grail for content creation, wether a online class or instagram picture. It is this super compact, sturdy, light weight and still reaches a good maximum length (152cm high) and for extra bonus point it also doesn’t cost afortune! I also love how travel friendly and versatile this tripod is. I use it do hold my phone but also my webcam.
It is not suitable for holding actual cameras, but if your setup is similar to mine, you won’t need that anyways ;)
Lighting
I am currently using the neewer led panel kit that comes with 2 panels and softboxes. There are definitely cheaper options, however I really wanted something small and easy to store when I convert my online yoga studio back into an actual living space. If you have the space, it is generally better to go with bigger softboxes as it distributes the light more evenly. However I think these lights work very well in my personal situation in which I have to set them up and take them down every time I teach online. I also really love that you can adjust the warmth of the light :)
